Digital literacy is a crucial skill in today’s interconnected world. In line with the Indian government’s efforts to enhance digital literacy across the country, Need Base India, launched its Digital Literacy initiative. The program aims to bridge the digital divide and empower the children and youth of the Marginalized Communities with digital skills.
It has established computer centers, which serve as hubs of empowerment, providing children and youths with essential 21st-century digital skills in their local environments in Urban and Rural areas.
Currently, the centers are established in 3 locations at Srirampura – Bangalore, Munirabad – Koppal, and Hanumasagar – Koppal. The centers support 62 students imparting them Digital Literacy classes for each batch. Established since 2023, 136 children and youth have benefited till now. The programs have a duration of 6 months for each batch. Currently 62 students are undergoing the training in all the 3 centers.
These centers are established as community learning centers equipped with modern computers and high-speed internet access, transforming local spaces into vibrant hubs of digital learning. In line with The National Digital Literacy Mission, these centers offer Structured courses comprising of Basic course, Specialized Training and Advanced Digital skills.
Basic course encompass basic computer skills, internet literacy, and proficiency in essential productivity tools. Specialized Training Modules include specialized training in digital security, online collaboration, and responsible social media usage. Advanced Digital Skills empower young adults with advanced digital skills through specialized workshops covering programming fundamentals, graphic design, digital marketing strategies, and the essentials of entrepreneurship.

Tailoring
In an effort to transform lives for better tomorrow, Need Base India, established a skill development program in Tailoring. Broadridge & Need Base India through this program attempts to empower women through sewing classes in Koppal town. The aim of the initiative is to not only teach the women folks a skill but also providing a path to self-reliance and empowerment. As these women harnessed their newfound skills and independence, this has not only improved their own lives but also contributed to the socio-economic development of the region.
Tailoring classes equipped rural women with the tools to start their town small businesses, enabling them to become entrepreneurs. This has enabled them to gain financial independence and break the cycle of poverty.
The 3 months program encompasses, basic sewing techniques, hand embroidery, pattern making, basic garment construction work, and patchwork and quilting. They also learn different cutting patterns for Uniforms, Sarees, Blouses, Churidars, Pants, Frocks, Print Cutting, and Fittings.
66 women from the region have successfully completed the course and are presently employed in one form or the other earning a livelihood. Tailoring classes have been instrumental in empowering rural women, enabling them to become self-employed and generate a stable income.
